Through this final project I was able to understand how to capture aspects of our environment and daily lives by means other than drawing or painting. Although at first it was difficult for me to understand how to take pictures in black and white or the contrast between light and dark, I was eventually able to take beautiful pictures. I also believe that since I have put a great deal of attention to the contrast of lights and darks in this assignment, I can now apply this in my drawing and it will help me with shading tones.

Final project

For my final art project I chose to explore outside the realm of drawing and painting.. photography ! 🙂
I googled some famous photographers and found myself drawn to Henri Cartier Bresson’s work. Bresson was a french photographer who is considered to be the father of modern photojournalism and has helped to develop what is now known as street photography or real life reportage. Overall he has been a great influence in the artistic world. His photographs depict daily living which is something I was interested in replicating. *I would like to note that Bresson never used the flash because he thought it was impolite. All of my Bresson replications are without flash and in black and white in order to be consistent with his work.

3D Art- Cornell Box

3D Box-Front view

For my Cornell Box I decided to make something that can be used rather than just looked at, for this reason I incorporated a couple of drawers and a shelf. I wanted each of the stars on the inside of the box to stand out so after making them I covered them with hilighter marker.. this was a good idea because the stars give off a sort of glowing illusion. For the drawers I did use paint on the star handles, not only because they would not be glowing since they are outside of the box but also to make them a bit tougher so they won’t break when held. Although I had planned to cover the drawers in black cloth, like the shelf, I decided in the end to leave them bare with the few paint marks to give the whole box a sort of artsy/ crafty look.

My third painting assignment (10 paintings project)

Pots

I chose these two objects from the studio closet. There is supposed to be a piece of flowing cloth underneath the pots but it is not clear through the camera.

Dress

This is simply a dress on display.

Abstract Color

I wanted to do something more abstract than the previous pieces and I did not know how to start it so I just combined colors with different brush strokes. Although its very different from the other paintings I did it is my favorite.

River

Horse in motion

I had googled pictures of horses and I wanted to try to paint a running horse but I realized afterward that its more complicated than I thought and I need more training to be able to do such paintings.

Ballet shoes 1

Ballet shoes 2

I painted two sets of ballet shoes because after I painted the first set I realized that it did not look very realistic and I was not happy with it. I believe the second set look much better.

Girl with golden hair

wine

Candle

This is supposed to be an old fashioned candle coming out of the wall.

My second painting assignment

For this assignment we gathered objects on a table in the center of the room and painted what we wished from those objects. I chose to paint a water bottle.
